Jaswinder Bhalla Filmography

Jaswinder Bhalla spent decades making Punjab laugh, first as one half of the comedy duo behind the Chhankata audio series, and later as one of the most reliable supporting comic presences in Punjabi cinema. He passed away in August 2025, but his filmography remains a genuine institution - years of playing police officers, fathers, uncles, and everyman characters who could turn a single scene into the funniest thing in the movie. He built his film career less around individual lead roles and more around becoming a fixture of Punjabi cinema's biggest ensembles: the police officer who returned across all three Jatt & Juliet films, part of the founding cast of the Carry On Jatta franchise, and a recurring anchor in the farcical Mr & Mrs 420 series. That pattern - showing up again and again in the industry's biggest comedies rather than chasing solo stardom - is exactly what made him one of its most dependable and beloved names. This guide walks through the Jaswinder Bhalla filmography currently streaming on Chaupal - Punjabi movies featuring Jaswinder Bhalla across his best-known comedy films - tracing the ensemble comedies and recurring characters that made him a genuine institution in Punjabi cinema, along with answers to the questions audiences most often ask about his filmography. Best Jaswinder Bhalla Movies You Should Know About 1. Jatt & Juliet Release: 2012 Genre: Romance, Comedy Director: Anurag Singh Writer: Dheeraj Rattan Cast: Diljit Dosanjh, Neeru Bajwa, Jaswinder Bhalla, Rana Ranbir, B.N. Sharma Jatt & Juliet gave Jaswinder Bhalla one of his most enduring supporting roles as Inspector Joginder Singh, the endlessly game police officer swept up in the chaos surrounding Fateh (Diljit Dosanjh) and Pooja (Neeru Bajwa)'s culture-clash romance in Canada. Bhalla's Joginder Singh wasn't central to the romance, but his comic timing helped anchor the film's ensemble scenes, and the character proved popular enough that he returned for two more instalments over the next decade. It was the first entry in a franchise that would go on to become one of Bhalla's most recognizable recurring roles. Jatt & Juliet remains the clearest starting point for understanding just how tightly his name became linked to this specific series. 2. Jatt & Juliet 2 Release: 2013 Genre: Romance, Comedy Director: Anurag Singh Writer: Dheeraj Rattan, Amberdeep Singh Cast: Diljit Dosanjh, Neeru Bajwa, Jaswinder Bhalla, Rana Ranbir, B.N. Sharma Jatt & Juliet 2 brought Jaswinder Bhalla's Inspector Joginder Singh back for a new story following Fateh's attempt to get promoted by tracking down his commissioner's daughter in Canada, only to fall for her instead. Director Anurag Singh returned too, and the sequel went on to become the first Punjabi film released on Blu-ray. Bhalla's role expanded slightly within the returning ensemble, cementing Joginder Singh as a character audiences specifically associated with the franchise rather than a one-off supporting part. Jatt & Juliet 2 showed that Bhalla's comic presence could survive - and even benefit from - a much bigger production than the original. 3. Jatt & Juliet 3 Release: 2024 Genre: Romance, Comedy Director: Jagdeep Sidhu Writer: Jagdeep Sidhu Cast: Diljit Dosanjh, Neeru Bajwa, Jasmin Bajwa, Jaswinder Bhalla, Rana Ranbir, B.N. Sharma More than a decade after the original, Jatt & Juliet 3 brought Jaswinder Bhalla's Inspector Joginder Singh back one final time, in a story following two police officers on a mission to the UK who are secretly in love with each other. Writer-director Jagdeep Sidhu took over the franchise for this installment, and it became one of the biggest Punjabi theatrical events in years. Bhalla's return after an eleven-year gap gave longtime fans a genuine sense of continuity, even as the rest of the cast and crew shifted around him. Reviews were mixed on the film as a whole, with some critics feeling it leaned too hard on nostalgia rather than fresh material. Still, Jatt & Juliet 3 closed out a trilogy that spanned more than a decade of Bhalla playing the same beloved supporting character. 4. Carry On Jatta Release: 2012 Genre: Comedy Director: Smeep Kang Writer: Naresh Kathooria Cast: Gippy Grewal, Mahie Gill, Binnu Dhillon, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Jaswinder Bhalla, Rana Ranbir Carry On Jatta cast Jaswinder Bhalla within the founding ensemble of what would become one of Punjabi cinema's biggest comedy franchises, built around Jass (Gippy Grewal), who lies to the woman he loves about having no family and spirals into escalating chaos trying to keep the lie alive. Director Smeep Kang's film immediately established the dense, overlapping comic ensemble style that would define the series. Bhalla shared the screen with Binnu Dhillon, Gurpreet Ghuggi, and Rana Ranbir in a supporting capacity, contributing to a group dynamic the franchise would lean on even more heavily in its sequels. Carry On Jatta gave Bhalla a foothold in what would become his second major recurring franchise alongside Jatt & Juliet. 5. Carry On Jatta 2 Release: 2018 Genre: Comedy, Drama Director: Smeep Kang Writer: Vaibhav Suman, Shreya Srivastava Cast: Gippy Grewal, Sonam Bajwa, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon, Jaswinder Bhalla, B.N. Sharma, Karamjit Anmol Carry On Jatta 2 brought Jaswinder Bhalla back for the sequel, joining a mostly returning ensemble around new leading lady Sonam Bajwa, cast opposite Gippy Grewal as an NRI whose courtship is complicated by mismatched expectations. Bhalla's continued presence within the ensemble - alongside Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon, and B.N. Sharma - helped the sequel feel like a genuine continuation of the same comic world rather than a fresh start with new faces. The film's success confirmed that the franchise could sustain a new central couple while keeping its supporting cast largely intact. Carry On Jatta 2 marked the midpoint of Bhalla's decade-plus run with the series. 6. Carry On Jatta 3 Release: 2023 Genre: Comedy, Family Drama Director: Smeep Kang Writer: Vaibhav Suman, Shreya Srivastava Cast: Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, Sonam Bajwa, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Kavita Kaushik, Jaswinder Bhalla, Karamjit Anmol Carry On Jatta 3 closed out Jaswinder Bhalla's run with the franchise, returning him to the ensemble more than a decade after the original for a story following Jass's efforts to win over Meet's family despite a feud between their households. Chaupal itself has called the film's theatrical run one of the biggest in Punjabi cinema history, and it went on to stream exclusively on the platform. Bhalla appeared in a supporting capacity alongside longtime collaborators Binnu Dhillon, Gurpreet Ghuggi, and B.N. Sharma, rounding out a trilogy he'd been part of since 2012. It was one of his final major franchise appearances before his passing in 2025. Carry On Jatta 3 stands as a fitting bookend to over a decade of Bhalla's involvement in one of Punjabi comedy's most enduring series. 7. Mr & Mrs 420 Release: 2014 Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance Director: Ksshitij Chaudhary Writer: Smeep Kang Cast: Yuvraj Hans, Jassi Gill, Babbal Rai, Binnu Dhillon, Jaswinder Bhalla Mr & Mrs 420 cast Jaswinder Bhalla within a chaotic ensemble comedy about broke friends who disguise themselves as married couples to secure housing from a landlord who only rents to families. Director Ksshitij Chaudhary built the film around a gender-swap farce that gave its cast, Bhalla included, plenty of room for physical comedy. The film was a commercial success substantial enough to spawn a sequel four years later, with Bhalla's involvement helping establish a second major franchise lane in his filmography distinct from Jatt & Juliet and Carry On Jatta. Mr & Mrs 420 became one of the more purely chaotic entries in a filmography built largely around ensemble chemistry. 8. Mr & Mrs 420 Returns Release: 2018 Genre: Comedy, Drama Director: Ksshitij Chaudhary Writer: Naresh Kathooria Cast: Ranjit Bawa, Jassi Gill, Payal Rajput, Karamjit Anmol, Jaswinder Bhalla, Gurpreet Ghuggi Mr & Mrs 420 Returns brought Jaswinder Bhalla back for the sequel, this time built around a fake marriage staged to secure an inheritance, with a mostly new cast assembled around returning star Jassi Gill and newcomer Karamjit Anmol. Director Ksshitij Chaudhary kept Bhalla and Gurpreet Ghuggi on as returning comic anchors, giving the film a link back to the original even as most of the ensemble changed. The film performed well enough to prompt a further sequel years later, though that installment, Mr & Mrs 420 Again, did not include Bhalla. Mr & Mrs 420 Returns marked Bhalla's last appearance in a franchise he'd helped establish four years earlier. 9. Gaddi Jaandi Ae Chalaangaan Maardi Release: 2023 Genre: Comedy, Drama Director: Smeep Kang Writer: Naresh Kathooria Cast: Ammy Virk, Binnu Dhillon, Jasmin Bajwa, Jaswinder Bhalla, B.N. Sharma Gaddi Jaandi Ae Chalaangaan Maardi cast Jaswinder Bhalla as Labh Singh Heera, the materialistic father of Ammy Virk and Binnu Dhillon's characters, in director Smeep Kang's 2023 comedy about a family car that becomes collateral damage in an escalating dowry dispute. Reviewers singled out Bhalla and Binnu Dhillon's performances as the film's strongest element, even as the back half drew more mixed notices for underusing its female leads. It's a later-career showcase of Bhalla settling into the patriarch roles that became common for him as the generation of actors he'd once shared the screen with as peers grew into playing fathers and uncles instead. Gaddi Jaandi Ae Chalaangaan Maardi stands as one of the more recent, well-reviewed examples of Bhalla's specific gift for making a demanding, difficult father figure genuinely funny rather than simply overbearing. Jaswinder Bhalla's Most Popular Movie Genres A few patterns come up again and again across Jaswinder Bhalla's comedy films, and together they explain why he became such a dependable presence in Punjabi comedy movies for decades. Franchise Comedy Jatt & Juliet, Jatt & Juliet 2, Jatt & Juliet 3, Carry On Jatta, Carry On Jatta 2, and Carry On Jatta 3 are the two franchises most closely tied to Bhalla's name, both built around recurring ensembles he stayed with across every installment rather than one-off appearances. Farce & Chaos Comedy Mr & Mrs 420 and Mr & Mrs 420 Returns show Bhalla at his most chaotic, embedded in fake-marriage plots and mistaken-identity farce alongside a rotating cast of Punjabi comedy's biggest names. Family & Father-Figure Comedy Gaddi Jaandi Ae Chalaangaan Maardi represents the later-career patriarch roles Bhalla increasingly took on, trading younger comic-relief parts for demanding father and uncle figures.
