Some stories work because they are complicated. Others work because their message is simple and easy to understand. Sarpanch falls somewhere in between. At its heart, it is a story about a village that has spent too long living under the influence of a corrupt leader and one man who decides that complaining about the situation is not enough anymore. Directed by Mandeep Benipal, Sarpanch stars Dev Kharoud, Jasmin Bajwa and Gurbaaz Singh, with the story revolving around Fateh and his decision to enter the village election and challenge an established system. The teaser sets up the central conflict clearly, with Fateh's fight becoming much bigger than just winning an election Now, with Sarpanch coming to Chaupal on 10 September 2026, here is a closer look at what makes the film worth watching. A Story Built Around Power and Resistance The film begins with a situation that is unfortunately easy to understand. A village is struggling under a leader who has used his position for his own benefit, while the people around him have little power to change things. Fateh's decision to contest the election changes the equation. What makes the story interesting is that Fateh is not simply fighting for a chair. His decision becomes a challenge to the way power has been exercised in the village for years. The election gives the film its political layer, but the real conflict is between those who want to maintain control and those who believe the village deserves something better. That gives Sarpanch a strong emotional foundation without taking away from its action-driven side. Dev Kharoud Is a Natural Fit for Fateh Dev Kharoud has a screen presence that works particularly well for characters who do not need to say too much to establish themselves. As Fateh, he brings the seriousness and physical intensity that the character demands. His performance helps the film maintain its grounded tone, particularly when the conflict starts becoming personal. There is also something convincing about seeing Kharoud in a role where the character's strength comes from his willingness to take a stand rather than simply from his ability to fight. Mandeep Benipal Keeps the Setting Important One of the better aspects of Sarpanch is the way the village becomes part of the story. It is not simply a backdrop for the action. The politics, relationships and conflicts all come from the environment in which the characters live. This makes the central election feel relevant to the people around Fateh rather than something happening separately from their lives. Mandeep Benipal keeps the storytelling fairly direct, which suits the film. There is a clear conflict, clear stakes and a protagonist who knows what he is fighting for. Where the Film Works Best The strongest part of Sarpanch is its central idea. The film asks a fairly straightforward question: what happens when people stop accepting the way things have always been? That question gives Fateh's journey its purpose. The film also manages to connect the personal and political sides of the story, so the fight is not only about defeating an opponent but also about restoring a sense of confidence among the people of the village. For Punjabi audiences, the setting adds another layer because the story feels close to the social and political realities of rural life. The Action Has a Reason Behind It Sarpanch is categorised as an action thriller, but the action is tied closely to the larger conflict. There is tension because Fateh is challenging someone who has already established his influence. Every step towards the election brings the possibility of resistance, confrontation and consequences. This keeps the action connected to the story instead of making it feel like a series of scenes added simply to increase the excitement. Does the Film Have Its Weak Spots? It does. The basic idea of an honest protagonist taking on a powerful and corrupt figure is not new. Viewers who regularly watch political dramas may also be able to predict the direction of certain parts of the story. Some of the conflict follows familiar territory, and the film does not always try to surprise the audience. But that is also where Sarpanch understands its audience. It focuses more on telling its story with conviction than on constantly trying to introduce unexpected twists. The performances and the rural setting help give the familiar premise its own identity. Why Sarpanch Fits Chaupal's Punjabi Line-Up Punjabi audiences have always connected with stories that feel rooted in their own surroundings, whether it is comedy, family drama, romance or stories about social issues. Sarpanch brings something different to the mix. It is a more serious action-driven story built around village politics, leadership and the fight for change. For viewers exploring new Punjabi movies on Chaupal, the film adds another kind of story to the platform's Punjabi catalogue. It is the sort of film that can appeal to audiences looking for something more intense than a conventional comedy or romantic drama. Is Sarpanch Worth Watching? Yes. Sarpanch may use a familiar political-drama setup, but it has enough substance in its characters, setting and central conflict to hold your attention. Dev Kharoud is well suited to the role of Fateh, while Mandeep Benipal keeps the film focused on its core conflict. The result is a Punjabi action drama that has something to say without completely losing sight of entertainment. If you enjoy films where the protagonist has to stand up against an established system, Sarpanch is worth adding to your watchlist. And if you have been waiting to watch it from home, Sarpanch premieres on Chaupal on 10 September 2026. Final Verdict Sarpanch is a solid Punjabi action drama that uses village politics to tell a larger story about courage, power and change. It does not try to reinvent the genre, and some parts of the story may feel familiar. But the performances, grounded setting and straightforward storytelling work in its favour. For us, it is a film that delivers what it sets out to do: tell a strong story about one man's decision to challenge a system that people have been forced to accept for too long.
