Directed by Amar Hundal, Dastaar explores how one man's personal struggle grows into a fight for dignity and community. The film arrives on Chaupal on 17 October 2026. Before you watch, here is a closer look at its story, cast and the themes that make it worth considering for your watchlist. What Is the Dastaar Punjabi Movie About? At the centre of Dastaar is Harnek Singh, a Sikh immigrant trying to build a life in Britain. His world is shattered when a brutal racial attack claims the lives of his loved ones. The tragedy leaves Harnek facing grief and uncertainty, but his story does not end with loss. As he finds the strength to move forward, he begins to stand up against the circumstances that have affected him and his community. His journey takes him from being a humble immigrant to becoming a community leader. What makes this premise compelling is the shift from an individual tragedy to a wider story of resilience. Harnek's struggle is personal, but the issues surrounding him reach beyond one family or one life. The film explores prejudice, belonging and the determination to preserve one's identity in an unfamiliar environment. The title also carries meaning within this context. A dastaar, or turban, is closely associated with Sikh identity and dignity. In Harnek's journey, it connects to the larger idea of standing firm in one's beliefs even when facing hostility. Why the Story Is About More Than Action The genre may draw viewers looking for an intense Punjabi film, but the central conflict gives Dastaar a more emotional foundation. The story brings together three elements that shape Harnek's journey. Personal loss: Harnek's life changes after the attack on his loved ones, forcing him to confront grief and rebuild his sense of purpose. Identity and belonging: Living in Britain, Harnek faces the challenge of holding on to his identity while dealing with prejudice in the society around him. Courage and community: His response to tragedy gradually becomes about more than his own circumstances. He finds the strength to stand up for others and emerge as a voice for his community. These themes give the film a different focus from stories built primarily around romance, comedy or family misunderstandings. Dastaar places its central character in difficult circumstances and follows how he responds to them. For Sikhs, the dastaar is not simply an item of clothing. It is associated with faith, identity and dignity. In a story about a Sikh immigrant facing racial hostility, that association becomes particularly relevant. Harnek's journey is about protecting his loved ones, finding the courage to move forward and standing firm in who he is. The film connects these personal challenges with the broader experience of a community confronting prejudice. This gives the title a significance beyond identifying the movie. It points towards the central ideas the story explores: identity under pressure, dignity in adversity and the strength that can emerge from difficult experiences. Dastaar Movie Genre: What Kind of Film Should You Expect? Dastaar is a Punjabi-language action thriller, with drama playing an important role in its story. That combination makes it a potential choice for viewers who want more than fast-paced action. The central conflict is rooted in a character's emotional journey, while the wider narrative explores racial violence, identity and resilience. The film's 1980s Britain setting also gives it a distinct backdrop. Instead of placing the story in contemporary Punjab, it follows a Sikh immigrant navigating life in another country during a difficult period. If you enjoy films where the action is connected to a larger personal or social struggle, Dastaar may be a good addition to your watchlist. When Is Dastaar Releasing on OTT?
