Horror and comedy are two of the most loved genres of all time. But when combined, an explosion of entertainment is created. Horror and comedy seem like complete opposites, one meant to entertain and the other to terrify. However, in the last decade, horror-comedy has become a hugely popular genre, blending scares and humor to great success. It’s now a major genre, and its popularity keeps growing.

Makers of horror-comedy skillfully use humor to make frightening themes more approachable. They create a balance that allows audiences to face unsettling topics they might otherwise avoid, using laughter as a bridge to confront deep fears. Hollywood, a pioneer in this mixed genre, has delivered some of the most laughter-filled- yet spine-chilling movies for a long time. Some of the famous ones are ‘Shaun of the Dead’, ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ and many more.

Not only this, but our Bollywood has also created some all-time masterpieces, that the audience has loved immensely. A few are ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’, ‘Stree’, ‘Roohi’, and many more. Pollywood has also entered this genre by giving the audience its first-ever horror–comedy movie – Hawa, starring Gurjazz, Hashneen Chauhan, and Honey Mattu. This trio is all set to take you on a journey that will not only give you a scare but also a burst of laughter. This family entertainer is a story of two unemployed men ‘Raja’ (Gurjaaz)and ‘J.J’ (Honey Mattu) who start living in the countryside to save money but end up in a home where ghostly incidents occur in the most fun way possible. ‘Mahi’ (Hashneen) is the love interest of Raja who is with them on this roller coaster ride. Shooting for the movie was done in an actual haunted house in the UK called ‘Magna Carta’, on the banks of the river Thames and most of the shooting was done at night. Hawa is a Chaupal production and shot in the picturesque landscape of the UK. Viewers can now stream Hawa on the OTT platform Chaupal.

Ajayvir Singh, Content Head, Chaupal remarked that “Hawa is going to be a turning point as it’s Pollywood’s first horror-comedy movie. This just goes to show that the Punjabi media industry is growing and exploring newer genres to always entertain the Punjabi audience and Chaupal is its pioneer. Also, many commercial movies are now being released on OTT platforms and not in theatres. This gives the audience a chance to see many more other movies at a nominal rate with family and friends.”
