Dr. Satinder Pal Singh, popularly known as Satinder Sartaaj, is a multifaceted artist who weaves magic through his soulful voice, poetic lyrics, and captivating performances. Born in the serene village of Bajrawar in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, Sartaaj has left an indelible mark on the world of Punjabi music, poetry, and cinema.

Sartaaj’s artistic journey began at a young age. While attending the government elementary school in his village, he discovered his passion for music. His melodious voice echoed in local Bal Sabhas, hinting at the brilliance that lay ahead. Later, he pursued an honors degree in music from Government College, Hoshiarpur, where he honed his craft. But Sartaaj’s thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there. He delved deeper into Sufi music, earning an MPhil and a PhD in Sufi singing from Panjab University, Chandigarh. His academic pursuits were complemented by a certificate course and a Diploma in the Persian language.

Sartaaj’s musical career took flight in his twenties. Initially, he was a farmer with no aspirations of becoming a performer. However, destiny had other plans. In 2008, he received a life-changing opportunity—a gig in Toronto, Ontario. The organizers had stumbled upon his soul-stirring performances on YouTube and wanted him to enchant the Punjabi-Canadian audience. And enchant he did! Sartaaj’s rendition of “Sai” catapulted him to fame, and he hasn’t looked back since. With “Cheere Waleya” marking his debut song, Sartaaj managed to captivate the hearts of every listener. Even today, anyone who listens to him cannot resist falling in love with his enchanting words and voice.

Sartaaj’s talent transcends borders. He won the prestigious “Best International Act” award at the Brit Asia TV Music Awards (BAMA) in 2011. His mesmerizing performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 2014 left audiences spellbound. His songwriting prowess earned him accolades, including “Best Songwriter” at BAMA 2017 for “Udaarian.” But he isn’t confined to music alone.

Dr. Satinder Sartaaj’s artistic prowess transcends borders, marked by his illustrious Hollywood debut portraying Maharaja Duleep Singh in the critically acclaimed film “The Black Prince.” His collaborations with global icons such as Nelly Furtado and Talib Kweli, coupled with his partnership with Indian cinema luminary Shabana Azmi, propelled him to international acclaim. His acting credits extend to Punjabi cinema as well, with roles in films like “Ikko Mikke” and “Kali Jotta”.

Despite his accomplishments as a bhangra performer, composer, and singer, Sartaaj’s heart belongs to Shayari (poetry). “Sartaaj,” a name reflecting his poetic soul, was bestowed upon himself when a poem first awakened his creative fire i.e.
